Objective
Plain sticky notes
We will be reading facts about the nine planets. Students will be making a trading card based on their favorite planet. This lesson will build upon what students already know about the solar system according to the K-W-L chart we previously constructed. The next lesson will take what is learned today and assist students in writing to a prompt about their chosen planet. This lesson connects Science and Reading.
Goals
Plain sticky notes
1. The learner will read nonfiction texts about the nine planets that make up the solar system. 2. The learner will summarize the major points found in the text and make a trading card of their favorite planet. Students will list stats (interesting facts) and draw a picture of their planet.
Frameworks
Plain sticky notes
1. R.10.3.1 Read daily-Students will practice daily reading. 2. R.9.3.13 Summarize major points found in nonfiction materials-Students will read nonfiction passages and determine important facts.

Learning Activities
Students will listen to some highlighted points about each planet and choose one. They will then read more about the planet they chose and make a trading card listing the planet's stats and drawing an accurate picture. Making the trading card and listing stats will teach students to summarize major points in texts. Students' thinking will be extended by them visualizing the planet as the read facts about it to draw an accurate picture. These activities are appropriate because from this day forward, students will need to know how to summarize major points. Whether it is in school or later in life at work, the skill is necessary.

Methods/Strategies
I will highlight some major points about each planet. Then, have students talk about which planet they are interested in with their partner. Next, have students read more about their chosen planet and construct their trading cards.
Grouping for Instruction
Instruction will be given to the whole group, followed by the students talking with their partners about the planet they like. The students will do the activity individually.
This grouping is appropriate because students listen and give input very well during whole group discussion.
Materials
The materials needed for the lesson are the passages with planet facts and index cards.
Evaluation
Rich sticky notes
The trading cards will be traded between students and feedback will be given. Students will then turn them in for grading. The cards will later be posted on the wall in the classroom for viewing.
