The Dolch Word List is also called the Sight Word/Word Wall List or The Dolch 220. It included the most frequently used words in the English Language. Sight words make up 50 to 70 percent of any general text. Therefore, teaching the Dolch Word List is a crucial goal of education in grades kindergarten through third grade. Many of the 220 Dolch words cannot be “sounded out” and have to be learned by “ SIGHT,” that is memorized!!!
Word Wall Words are the "sneaky" words we will encounter daily in our Harcourt Reading stories. Therefore, when these words are quickly recognized and read by your child, fluency can easily be achieved.

Welcome to Room 22,
My name is Michelle Howard and I will be your child’s kindergarten teacher. Let me tell you a little about myself. I am delighted to be going into my 17th year of teaching and returning to Edison for an 9th year of kindergarten. Prior to Edison, I taught 6th grade at Chippewa, first grade at Kimball, kindergarten at Garfield, Harrison & Sparlingville, second grade at Roosevelt and Instructional Specialist at Garfield.
I am blessed with a beautiful family. My husband Doug and I have been married for 21 years and have 4 amazing children. My daughter Kelsey is a 22 and loves animals, Gibson is starting his first yara of college at SC4 , Gavin is a 9th grader at PHN and Lincoln is a 6th grader at Fort Gratiot Middle School. Yes, 4 kids keep me busy but I wouldn’t trade it for anything! We also have a cat named Brisbee, a pup named Finnegan and a tank full of fish!
Here are a few of my favorite things: (can you hear me singing) I love watching my kids play sports. They are involved in soccer, basketball and band. I also love boating, scrapbooking, taking pictures, bike riding, walking my dog and vacationing with my family. I love coffee, Subway and homemade chocolate chip cookies! Flowers, nature and sea creatures also make me happy! I look forward to working with all of you and creating wonderful memories with your children. I have no doubt that this will be an amazing year!
Love, Mrs. Michelle Howard
