Built in widgets

Protopage comes with a number of built-in widgets that let you do useful things with your page. You can add these widgets to your page from the 'Add widgets' panel, as descripted in the previous chapter 'Adding widgets to your page'.

Sticky notes allow you to keep notes and messages on your page. To change the text of a sticky note, just click the text and start typing. While you are typing, you'll see a caption bubble appear letting you know that you are currently editing your sticky note. Click outside of the sticky note when you have finished typing and the 'edit in progress' bubble will disappear and your changes will be saved automatically.
You can create new to-do list items by clicking the 'new item' button (C). To change the text of an item, just click the text and start typing, just like you do for sticky notes. Click the check box (B) to 'tick' or 'un-tick' each to-do item. You can drag and drop the items by their checkboxes (B). You can create multi-level lists, so that you can group a set of to-do items together. You can open and close each group of items by clicking the twister button (A). You can delete items by clicking the cross icon (D), and you can see more options for each to-do item (such as making items bold or indenting items) by clicking the item options button (E).
You can keep events in your calendar widget. Days of the month that have events are encircled. To see the event on that date, simply hover your mouse over it. To edit the events on a particular date, simply click on that date.
You can upload photos, such as pictures of your family, to your page. You can also caption each photo. To add a photo, follow the instructions inside the widget.
Keep bookmarks on your page for quick access to your favorite web sites. Click the 'edit' button to change the bookmark links that appear inside the widget.
Place a comment box on your page so that your friends can leave comments. To protect your page from spam messages, your friends can only leave comments if the comment box widget is located on a page that is shared with that friend via a password that gives them the ability to change the page.
You can see a preview of the messages in your email inbox, if you have a POP3, IMAP or GMail account. Please see the technical information from your email provider for details on how to configure this widget.
See the current weather with this widget. Click the 'edit' button to choose your town or city.
You can make entire web pages appear inside a web page widget. Just click the 'edit' button and enter the address of the web page that you would like to display inside the widget.
We provide both analog and digital clocks for your page. You can click the 'edit' button to specify a time zone offset, so that you can see the time in cities around the world. Please note that the clock uses the time from the computer you are using, so make sure your computer's built-in time setting is correctly set.
Just for fun, we've included a virtual puppy! Click the puppy to see how it reacts, and try playing fetch with it by dragging and dropping the ball and bone icons!
