Frequently asked questions

Which web browsers is the site compatible with?

We recommend that you use Mozilla Firefox 2.0 (PC and Mac users) or Internet Explorer 7.0 (PC users only). Protopage also works Internet Explorer 6.0 and upwards, but we highly recommend that you upgrade to the latest version of your web browser for optimum performance. We also have limited support for the Opera and Safari web browsers.

How do I troubleshoot problems with Internet Explorer?

Protopage works with Internet Explorer versions 6.0 and above (If you are using a Mac, then use Firefox instead - download it at http://www.getfirefox.com)

If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer and are seeing a blank black page, this is because Internet Explorer has run out of temporary file space.

To resolve this issue, go to the Tools menu and choose Internet Options. Then, from the General tab, under the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Delete Files… button. This is a safe operation that will only remove temporary internet files. Then try accessing your page again.

How do I troubleshoot problems with Mozilla Firefox?

If you are using Firefox, then we have had reports that installing some ‘extensions’ will stop Protopage from loading. If you have just installed a new extension, then please try uninstalling it and try loading your page again.

Check you have not run out of disk space, and try clearing your browser cache. You can do this by choosing the Tools menu and then Options, and then choosing the Privacy section followed by the Cache tab. Then click Clear cache now and try your Protopage again.

I have not yet received my activation email

Depending on your email service, it may take several minutes for the email to arrive. Try checking your 'Junk Mail' folder or 'Spam' folder in your email program if you have one.

How do I upload my own wallpaper?

If you have a wallpaper picture you would like to use, upload it to ImageShack.

Copy the 'Direct link to image' text that ImageShack gives you, then select Colors/Settings from the toolbar at the bottom of the screen, choose Wallpaper Image and paste it into the wallpaper url box. Once you click OK, you may need to refresh the page to see your new background - if it is a large image you may have to wait a while for your browser to load it.
