AutoCAD software and 3D modeling today

The new version of AutoCAD 2020 has few new features, more on so the review will be short. In short, the distinctive features of AutoCAD 2020 are:

  • Complete rejection of the version for 32-bit operating systems
  • Improving system performance
  • Integration with common cloud storage
  • Changes to the interface
  • New tool Palette of blocks
  • Changed commands to clean up the drawings and comparing the drawings
  • New instrument for rapid measurement

A complete rejection of the 32-bit platforms
Autodesk abandoned the 32-bit version of AutoCAD. With the release of version 2020, you can only use the 64-bit version.

I don't know if this will upset anyone. I wonder how many real users were using the latest versions of AutoCAD on computers with 3 GB of memory?

If the question still affects you, then read the document AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT. Stopping the release of versions for 32-bit systems.

System requirements

System requirements haven't changed - they haven't increased, but they haven't decreased either. As for AutoCAD 2019, all requirements are given for "vertical" versions, so in theory, vanilla AutoCAD 2020 is able to work adequately on a weaker hardware.

There are many add-ons and tools for the editor that allow you to expand the functionality of the basic version of the program:

  1. AutoCAD Architecture-a version aimed at architects and containing special additional tools for architectural design and drawing, as well as tools for issuing construction documentation;
  2. AutoCAD Electrical is designed for designers of electrical control systems and is characterized by a high level of automation of standard tasks and the presence of extensive libraries of symbols;
  3. AutoCAD MEP is focused on the design of civil engineering systems: plumbing and Sewerage systems, heating and ventilation, electrics and fire safety. Implemented the construction of a three-dimensional parametric model, obtaining drawings and specifications based on it;
  4. AutoCAD Map 3D is designed for professionals who perform projects in the field of transport construction, power supply, land and water use. it allows you to create, process and analyze project and GIS information;
  5. AutoCAD Mechanical is designed for engineering design and is distinguished by the presence of libraries of standard components, component generators and calculation modules, automation tools for design and documentation tasks, and the ability to work together;
  6. AutoCAD Plant 3D — a tool for the design of technological objects;
  7. AutoCAD P&ID-a program for creating and editing pipeline and instrumentation diagrams, as well as for managing them;
  8. AutoCAD 2021 Structural Detailing is a tool for designing and calculating steel and reinforced concrete structures that supports building information modeling technology.

The undisputed leader among basic CAD systems is AutoCAD.

many terms have lost their original meaning among CAD specialists, and the term CAD now refers to a computer-aided design program.

In other words, what used to be called a CAD SOFTWARE or CAD system is now commonly referred to as a computer-aided design (CAD) system.

You can also find the names CAD-system, CAD-system, CAD system, and many others,

but they all mean one thing a certain program for computer-aided design.
In today's market, there are a large number of CAD systems that solve different tasks.

In this review, we will look at the main computer-aided design systems in the field of mechanical engineering.
