Meet the Teacher

Hello! My name is Holly Gilmer and I am so excited to be your child’s teacher! I am looking forward to partnering with you this year to help your child grow and learn. I feel so honored and thankful to be able to invest in your children this year and that you trust me enough to do so. I want to know all about your child, but first I am going to tell you a few things about me. I was born in Texas and spent most of my childhood living in Friendswood. I graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. I have taught for 8 years in both public and private schools grades pre-k thru 4th grade. This will be my third year at Eagle Heights, and my second year teaching 3rd grade. I have been married for 9 years to my husband, Greg, and we have 2 daughters. My oldest, Hadley, is almost 5 and my second daughter, Sadie, is 2.5. They both attend Eagle Heights and I feel so blessed to be teaching at the same school that they attend. I also have a dog named Kingsley, who was our first “baby”. My hobbies include running, spending time with family and watching college football (Go Aggies!). I am so excited to meet each of you in person! It is my prayer that your child will grow not only academically, but also spiritually this year.

AR

This year the students will be taking AR tests in the classroom. It works really well for young students if you keep a small notebook with their login ID and Password, and a list of books read, with AR quiz #s (if you have them). That way we can find them quickly so that they can make the most use of AR time. Then simply cross off each book as the test is complete. If you have a book and want to know what reading level it is, use the bookmark for AR Bookfinder and type the title into the box under the "Quick Search" tab. It will bring up all the information you need, including book level, quiz #, etc. Write down the quiz # in your notebook if you decide to read the book. If you want to look up titles of books that are in the appropriate reading level range for your child, use the advanced search tab. You do not need to fill in most of the blanks. Just choose the interest level (LG K-3) and enter the lowest to highest level you want to search for. Narrowing down by topics will help you choose from a smaller list of books, but is not necessary. You will be given a list of all AR books within that level range. You can click "add to AR bookbag" for the books you are interested in, and when finished, print your list from the bookbag. Then when you go to the library or bookstore, you know what to look for rather than being overwhelmed and trying to figure it out while you are there.
