This document had its origins as a sticky note within protopage. It was written without my glasses on so there were quite a few typos. But no matter by cutting and pasting into google documents the task of editing is easy - so this finished article is called a Socrates Document which can be placed in The Eagle and The Birdie within Protopage. (And LOKHUL REPORTER).
The Eagle 8/03/2021
Justification for having Protopage as an integral part of a golf club business.
I am simply saying that Protopage with Google forms is such a powerful tool it should not be ignored for Golf Club Administration.
$47 to trick you out of curing a slice when all the tutorials you need are for free at The Golf hub.
15 shots to cure a slice by the reverse slice technique - what is he going to tell you other than close the clubface.
I have inserted an extract from the Golf Hub which is the video of Jack Niclaus called Golf My Way.
Jack clearly states and repeats himself that the objective of golf is to have one swing for all clubs.
Ball position for the irons is constant as is the stance, the only variable being if you want to slice or fade the ball in which case you either open or close the clubface at set up. Jack explains this in 30 seconds it does not take $47 worth of teaching how to do a reverse slice in 15 swings.
The other thing is there is nothing wrong with a fade - it gives you greater control. One of the golfers explains that he has achieved success with a power fade that allows him to strike the ball 220 yards.
MY RESPONSE TO THAT MAN IS YES YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING BUT YOUR AIM IS TOO LOW - WITH A POWER FADE YOU SHOULD BE AIMING AT 280 YARDS. LONG ENOUGH FOR ANY SCRATCH GOLFER.
In fact by introducing a draw into your game you are at risk of introducing failure.
I started golf late in life but was given a handicap of 15. I played well with a fade until one day the president of the club came to me to say how impressed the low handicap players were about my game and they wanted me to play for the team.
I was approached on the 17th tee - with out of bounds down the right hand side.
MR PRESIDENT SAID YOUR PROBLEM IS ALAN THAT YOU HAVE NOT LEARNED HOW TO PLAY GOLF. YOU SET YOURSELF UP ON THIS TEE TO DRIVE THE GREEN - A PAR 4.
YOU OPEN YOUR STANCE BECAUSE THE SAFE WAY OUT IS TO MISS LEFT BUT YOU SWING AT THE GREEN THIS HAS THE EFFECT OF OPENING THE CLUBFACE - YOU THEN SLICE THE BALL OUT OF BOUNDS. YOUR CARDS SHOWIT EVERY WEEK. TO STOP THE SLICE AIM DOWN THE RIGHT HAND SIDE TOWARDS THE OUT OF BOUNDS AND DRAW BACK YOUR RIGHT FOOT A LITTLE - CLOSE THE STANCE. THEN TAKE YOUR NORMAL SWING AT THE GREEN.
The effect that this had on me was immense. I played for the team and was paired with our top stick Brian. We won easily. I was playing off 16. IN THE DISCUSSION AFTER THE GAME WE TALKED ABOUT BANDITS IN GOLF - I SAID THAT IT WAS A TERRIBLE THING TOTALLY THE WRONG ATTITUDE TO GOLF. CLEARLY STILL UPSET ABOUT THE THRASHING THEY HAD THEY RETORTED - WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT YOU ARE THE BIGGEST BANDIT WE HAVE EVER SEEN YOU ARE CLEARLY A BETTER PLAYER THAN YOUR PARTNER AND AS TO HOW YOU PUT UP WITH THE WAY HE TALKS TO YOU WE WILL NEVER KNOW.
This experience made me think - I frequently shot the back 9 in level par and that i should be much better than 16. So I started to apply myself - I should have had lessons but I chose not to. I learnt to draw the ball and was soon shooting net 59
my handicap dropped to 7 within the month. What I had not learnt was my basic posture - I stand too far away from the ball. So I have the tendency to block the ball when going for the big draw - I also suffer from fast hands when setting up for a power fade. I can snap in too soon and hit a hook I have never focused on getting better than 7. I did however get to 5 handicap when i hit a purple patch. I had 4 rounds of golf in one week once where I shot 68,68,67,69 the best that I have ever played. This should have been a catalyst for me to move to a balata ball but it wasn't I continued to play with whatever ball I found (And I had a large collection -sometimes finding 24 balls per month).
I got to 5 handicap just to prove that I could - I did two things: 1. I bought 36 new golf balls so that I played with good consistent ammunition. I learnt about bad ammunition when i used to shoot. Most importantly I developed a GAME PLAN that I should hit in from 150 yards with an 8 iron. My 8 iron optimised at 164 yards. This meant I had to put away the driver and go for long irons.
IT FRUSTRATES ME THAT WHEN YOU GO TO BUY A SET OF CLUBS TODAY THEY ONLY GO AS FAR AS MID IRONS - THERE ARE NO 3 AND 4 IRONS IN THE STANDARD SET.
I have enjoyed my golf through the year hitting the ball both ways right handed and left handed now. So please take a look at the instructional videos that I have bookmarked for you at ThE GOLF HUB.
What I would like you all to do is to register your own Protopage website and create your own YouTube library. Plus get your own golf professional involved - Insist that the golf professional videos himself for the club Protopage / YOUTUBE library.
I would go as far as to say to employ your golf professional to do an analysis of your swing for YOUTUBE - Bob Ling used to do Video lessons where you got a copy of the lesson on the day of the Video. The Video recorder has gone but Protopage/YouTube is a better substitute.
