Other Noteworthy News....
Friday June 1 is a $2 jean day for the 4th grade walk a thon. Spring Concert—Wow, what a performance! The second and third grade students who performed the Gruffalo did a great job! The hard work that went into practicing was evident in their show! Library Books—The last day to turn in library books if Friday June 1st. All books and fines must be paid in order for students to attend end of the year field trips and celebrations. Field Trip—June 4 Cranbrook Science Institute. 3rd Grade picnic is June 13th. Look for more information to come home this week. Summer Learning Events - please turn in your RSVP’s for the summer learning events ASAP. We would love to discuss summer programs and opportunities for growth over the summer. Map Testing is complete. I am proud of the entire class for putting forth their best effort.
Week of
Curriculum: Reading: As we wrap up this school year, we will begin reviewing test taking strategies and skills. Students will practice MEAP style questions. We will also review different skills like reading schedules, using dictionaries, and practice reading fluency with reader’s theater scripts. Math: It is time for multiplication boot camp. Each day students will be working on multiplication activities to practice their basic facts. All students who are able to master through 12x12 will be invited to a multiplication ice cream party. Keep practicing!!! Writing: Our final writing unit is Voice. Throughout this unit, students will learn about writing with expression, We will continue to publish our own narrative stories. Social Studies: This week we will begin our study of the 13 Original Colonies. Our focus will include why settlers chose the regions to live, what industries were fruitful, and what the way of life was like in that climate.

Curriculum: Reading: This week’s story is “McBroom and the Big Wind.” During the week we will explore major and minor themes of a story. A theme is usually a message or lesson learned in the selection. It might also be the “big idea” that we take from a story. Minor themes are the smaller ideas that are also present in a story. Additionally we will discuss what makes a story a tall talk, and review synonyms and antonyms. Math: It is time for multiplication boot camp. Each day students will be working on multiplication activities to practice their basic facts. All students who are able to master through 12x12 will be invited to a multiplication ice cream party.
